In the Urban Priestess Mystery School, the Midwife is the archetype who initiates the Wheel of the Priestess in the zodiac house of Capricorn.

Capricorn is the 10th house of the zodiac wheel. This is the house of career, money, structure, reputation, major goals, achievements, life direction, vocation, dharma, social status and reputation in the eyes of the world.

Capricorn calls you to reach for your dreams and ground them into the physical plane.

The key to your success is to embody your knowing.

The goat reminds you that if you persevere, you will inevitably reach the summit, but to move cautiously, patiently and to stop and enjoy the view along the way – for that is where the true nectar lies.

Unafraid of the grit and messiness of life, the Capricorn Midwife exudes confidence, perseverance and sets realistic short and long term goals. She is diligent and not afraid to do the hard work necessary to achieve success. She inspires others by modeling groundedness, steadiness and stability. She is steadfast, enduring, hardy and strong.

The Midwife understands that discipline is not negative, and that it leads you to your truest freedom.

She helps people recognize and amplify their gifts – particularly in relationship to their vocation and career. She assists in crossing the thresholds of life and moving from one phase of life to another.

Some of the traits of a Capricorn/Midwife are:

  • Calm
  • Loyal
  • Brave
  • Dedicated

A few of the shadow qualities are:

  • Righteous
  • Workaholic
  • Disciplinarian
  • Pushing too far

The new moon is in Capricorn at 6:17pm PT on January 16th.

The New Moon is when the Sun and Moon are aligned, with the Sun and Earth on opposite sides of the Moon. This leaves the side of the Moon facing the Earth in complete darkness, which is why we can not see the New Moon.

Setting New Moon Intentions

Acknowledging the New Moon in its cycle is one way that you can connect more closely with the rhythm of nature – which allows you to attune more closely to your own intuition. The beginning of the Moon Cycle is an invitation to start fresh, call in intentions, and set the tone as you prepare for the energy of the coming weeks.

The journey of an Urban Priestess is about getting really clear on your deepest desires, so that you can powerfully voice your truth and manifest your dreams.

Set aside time at each New Moon to clear your slate and start fresh with a new list of intentions for the coming Moon Cycle.

Create a Sacred Space. Create an altar for the New Moon to symbolize the energy. Find a space in your home that is
dedicated to cultivating your spiritual practices.

For the Capricorn New Moon, find images and objects that represent the Midwife to you.

  • Use crystals associated with prosperity: citrine, pyrite, tiger’s eye, green jade
  • Images of Goddesses typically associated with the Wise Woman: Athena, Artemis, Lakshmi, etc.
  • Objects that represent your personal connection to the Midwife

Remember that the most important thing in building an altar or creating a ritual is that the objects are meaningful to you and hold symbolic power for you.

Trust your intuition.

Write Your List. Allow yourself time to drop in before you begin. Try a few minutes of meditation or breath work to focus and clear.

Open your journal to a new page to symbolize fresh start. Make a list of 10 or less intentions for this new moon.

Dream big as you generate this list, and write using “I am” statements. Close with another short meditation or prayer and keep your list close as you move through this Moon Cycle.

The most potent time for manifestation is the 48 hours once the new moon begins, so it is best to get in the habit of setting your intentions within those first 2 days.
