In the Urban Priestess Mystery School, the WISE WOMAN is the archetype who initiates the Wheel of the Priestess in the zodiac house of Sagittarius.

Sagittarius is the 9th house of the zodiac wheel. This is the house of higher knowledge, philosophy, religion, adventure, travel, expansion and the internal quest. The Sagittarius essence lives in the Wise Woman, Sage, Crone, Archer and the Seeker of Truth.

The Wise Woman can be mischievous and wile – often outwitting her comrades. She is smart enough to not take anything too seriously, especially herself. One of her animal totems is the coyote who has long been associated with The Trickster archetype – who playfully governs all the crossroads of life. Like the wile coyote, the Wise Woman laughs heartily, jokes, plays tricks, disobeys normal rules and defies conventional behavior.

She is autonomous and free.

As an elder of the tribe, she speaks her mind, states her truth and doesn’t fret over other people’s opinions of her nor waste her time in gossip and small minded conversation.

The Wise Woman is no longer invested in personal acclaim nor does she seek to be on the pedestal of praise.

Her living wisdom is her primary resource and guide; it doesn’t matter what others think of her.

The Wise Woman has cultivated herself through life experience and emanates genuine understanding and patience for navigating the tough waters while welcoming the flow of grace to support the journey.

Some of the traits of a Sagittarius/Wise Woman are:

  • Poise
  • Serenity
  • Wisdom
  • Patience

A few of the shadow qualities are:

  • Rigid
  • Bitter
  • Manipulative
  • Abuse of Power

The new moon is in Sagittarius at 10:30pm PT on December 17th.

The New Moon is when the Sun and Moon are aligned, with the Sun and Earth on opposite sides of the Moon. This leaves the side of the Moon facing the Earth in complete darkness, which is why we can not see the New Moon.

Setting New Moon Intentions

Acknowledging the New Moon in its cycle is one way that you can connect more closely with the rhythm of nature – which allows you to attune more closely to your own intuition. The beginning of the Moon Cycle is an invitation to start fresh, call in intentions, and set the tone as you prepare for the energy of the coming weeks.

The journey of an Urban Priestess is about getting really clear on your deepest desires, so that you can powerfully voice your truth and manifest your dreams.

Set aside time at each New Moon to clear your slate and start fresh with a new list of intentions for the coming Moon Cycle.

Create a Sacred Space. Create an altar for the New Moon to symbolize the energy. Find a space in your home that is
dedicated to cultivating your spiritual practices.

For the Sagittarius New Moon, find images and objects that represent the Wise Woman to you.

  • Use a cloth that belonged to your mother or grandmother if that feels right
  • Images of Goddesses typically associated with the Wise Woman: Sophia, Cerridwen, etc.
  • Objects that represent your personal connection to the Wise Woman

Remember that the most important thing in building an altar or creating a ritual is that the objects are meaningful to you and hold symbolic power for you.

Trust your intuition.

Write Your List. Allow yourself time to drop in before you begin. Try a few minutes of meditation or breath work to focus and clear.

Open your journal to a new page to symbolize fresh start. Make a list of 10 or less intentions for this new moon.

Dream big as you generate this list, and write using “I am” statements. Close with another short meditation or prayer and keep your list close as you move through this Moon Cycle.

The most potent time for manifestation is the 48 hours once the new moon begins, so it is best to get in the habit of setting your intentions within those first 2 days.
